We believe that the building originated somewhere around 1850 as the school for Brading. The plaque above the main doorway (see below) informs us that-“This building was enlarged and restored 1909 asa memorial to the Reverend Edgar Summers B.D. Vicar of Brading 1884 - 1906 by whom it was originally purchased for use as a church hall”It appears that for many years the building continued to play a significant part in the life of Brading as the church hall. Evidence of this was the discovery during the renovation of the building of the remains of a mural painted we believe in the late 1950’s?pp4883db83.pngHowever at some point in its existence the Hall seems to have taken a less glamorous role as we have heard that it was only being used by a local garage as a tyre store?Later what is now known as Summers Hall became the home of a company called Brading Textiles when they moved on it was purchased for conversion to a private dwelling, which is what it is today.
